3/10/1972 Liverpool GB St. George`s Hall

Yep I was there.
I seem to recall Judas Priest played support.

This was the gig where they played Bullfrog Blues three times.
I remember this was the first outing for my boyfriend's new (to him) car.
It was an F registration white Ford Anglia.
In those days you could park right up next to St. George's Hall.
There was no space so my boyfriend had to park on the curve on William Brown Street - no mean feat for a novice driver.
But he managed and in we all went ... five of us in a Ford Anglia  It was a squeeze ...

We were sitting at the back as usual, through force of habit!
There were loads of empty rows in front of us, and I thought 'great'! we'll have a really good view ... but I thought in haste ... loads of people were in the bar.

In those days Judas Priest had to pay the promoter to play, so, as long as the promoter made sure to get a cut of the bar takings, it was a win-win for the promoter ...

After the support band went off, people started coming out of the bar and taking their seats. By the time the house lights went down, all of the seats were taken. Too bad about my 'really good view'

This show was especially LOUD!!!

Apart from having to listen to Judas Priest for about 45 minutes, which frankly was an awful racket, I remember having to put Kleenex in my ears and keep my fingers in my ears throughout the show apart from during the acoustic segment in the middle. My ears were still ringing two days later.

About half way through the first half, people were calling out for Bullfrog Blues. Rory and the lads played it, then Rory asked the crowd for a laugh if they'd like to hear it again! They shouted yes! ... so they played it twice in succession. I remember them playing three encores and Bullfrog Blues was the final song they played.

A good night out apart from the volume!

A Ford Anglia? Like Ron's? That would be almost as fun as the concert-

Rory's concerts were loud, but I could always hear everything clearly- There are so many bands, even now, they get loud but the sound is mixed so muddled you can't make out all the vocals- but I could always hear everything clearly at a Rory concert, and the residual ringing only lasted a few hours-

My daughter took me to see Jack White last year, and he's pretty good, but the vocals were mixed so bad I couldn't always make out what he was singing. . .

Rock is best when it's LOUD.

those were the days-priest opening for rory. i know they were practically nobody back then but still i bet if those people who could go back in time on that concert-they would listen more carefully to judas priest.
I watched as fear took the old men's gaze
Hopes of the young in troubled graves
'I see no day' I heard him say
So grey is the face of every mortal

Yep! Exactly like Ron's only a white one!
The Youtube video made me laugh!
Thanks for that :D

Hi Innuendo
Sorry - never been a Judas Priest fan although I think it's so funny to see Rob Halford with no hair.
I remember the days when he had waist length bleached hair and wore a lilac midi coat on stage for every gig ... those were the days!

This Day in Rory History: March 10

Postby RobertaSparrow » 10 Mar 2015, 06:36

I was attempting to post the update to the March 10 Day in Rory History, and I wanted to start bringing all the previous posts that others have in years past posted in regard to each day.
Unfortunately when I moved a March 10 thread from 2012 up, it reordered the posts in the wrong order, and :? I have not yet figured out how to reorder them. Still working on it.
