Wow, what a great list of books, and thoughtfulness in selecting them for Rory. Nice for his birthday too since he was such an avid reader.

I think I would share some of Ian Rankin's Rebus series books with him. He seemed to like detective novels.

A new book from the excellent irish writer Joseph O'Connor. A lot of Rock there, I wonder if Rory is mentioned. He would probably have liked it.

I'd lend him Finnegans Wake by Joyce for a laugh.

In all seriousness I'd give him 1984 by Orwell.

I would recommend to Rory to read the books by Japanese Haruki Murakami who is one of my most favourite authors. I discovered his books a bookclub and i like his genre of books and I love the Wind Up Bird Chronicle. Haruki is a living legend in Japan but shys away from the limelight. If Rory liked Graham Greene books I feel he may like Haruki Murakami. Haruki really goes inside the mind of his characters and its deep. Almost finished writing my review on Strangers On A Train by Patricia Highsmith. She really does goes inside her characters heads and explores there psychology. I will post the review on Bank Holiday Monday. Tomorrow I have Keats Festival again and hope to read out my work. Yeah. Link to Haruki Murakami. Subrata. x

Michael Collins: The Man Who Made Ireland by Tim Pat Coogan (1996)

Michael Collins was born in County Cork.
It is clearly evident from Rory's music that he had a respect for history.
The story of Michael Collins is one for the ages.
