Mine are all about 3 inches long, maximum.

As mentioned earlier - I suspect ROry had a specific place he signed sleeves - many artists do - which would maybe help potential buyers. Perhpas we could post images of our own as guides ??

Here you go Folkdeejay.

This is my Jinx signed Rory album. Sorry it is not great quality, due to taken with cellphone and the reflection of the glass it is framed in. But you can see how much smaller Rory's signature is compared to the other. IMO Jinx hoax!
Looks like where you say 3 inches long, is a good guide ;)

I can vouch for that being genuine.....was signed by Rory for mygoodself at Leeds University on Sat May 22nd on opening night of "The Jinx Tour",and which i gave to JJ as a present(a surprise),a few years ago.... :) :) :)
I remember at the time was the first time i had got Rory's signature, and he hadnt signed Gallagher in full,my other albums that he signed in 1981,had the full name on it,he also signed a pic of myself and Rory from 1986,and again used the shortened surname when signing for me.... :D

Here is a link to a few more LP sleeves - would be interested if there is a trend ie, sigs in the same kind of place / size on most sleeves - a big help for buyers who are unsure as to how genuine a sellers item may be.

My Jinx copy is also signed to the left of the central text - in a smallis print.

Can't seem to embed an image, so link is to a folder with a few sleeves in it.

Anything I would consider buying that had his autograph I would compare to my Fresh Evidence CD sleeve that Rory signed right in front of me. So I know what his sig looks like.

You can see it here. In fact, you can compare Rory's signature that he made for me with the one on the top of the CD that is part of the CD!

No,

At least the auction is clear it is a repro, not an original but it suggests it is a repro of an actual item, which I doubt.

imo that is a cut & paste job initially, and it has then been copied.

Most Rory sigs I've seen are in ballpoint too....not sure why - i guess he did most in the 70's and 80's, before Sharpies were around ( or common) .

RORY GALLAGHER'S Autograph

Postby SUBY1974 » 02 Dec 2013, 23:45

I know a lot of fans out there own something that belonged Rory whether it be guitar, slide, pick, etc. For me as a writer I love the idea of owning his authentic autograph. I love handwritings and I would like to learn Calligraphy at some stage and I love old manuscripts written by monks, or Egyptian Hieroglyphs. Its lucky for me that Simon loves old manuscripts too. When got my copy of Notes In Sans Francisco I noticed Eliot Mazer had kept songs written by Rory in 1977 and they have been published in NSF. Rory had beautiful handwriting and i feel it shows his creativity and his joined up writing is so neat and tidy!! I love neat handwriting and yes my handwriting is neat . Then i had this vision in my minds eye of owning even a scrap of paper with Rory's handwriting on it. I would keep in one of Rory's biographies that i have. I kept all of my nan's letters cos her Bengali handwriting was beautiful and I wrote to her in Bengali. Anyway e-bay sites charge alot for memorabilia that has Rory's original autograph on it. However I found this site but obviously its the question of authenticity. I just want to know fans opinions or direct me to a more reputable site. Thanks. Subrata.

I am a great believer in handwriting specialists who can decipher a persons character and personality just from their style of writing. It would be interesting what they would find in Rory's handwriting. I mean they would not be told it was Rory but it would interesting to see if they can describe RG's personality to a T. Also Janpanese calligraphy takes my breath away. Subrata. x

Just another tip if you are considering buying something signed by Rory..

Besides checking the characters of lettering such as the lower case " g " in "G"allagher..

Usually Rory's signature is more often than not in biro / ball point ink pens, rather than felt tip pens, that were becoming used more often in the 90's ;)

Rory's handwriting looks very similar to Donal's. I suspect they were both taught from the Vere Foster copy books for hand writing which were commonplace throughout Ireland and Scotland in the 1950s. Even in the early 60s when I learnt to write, schools were strict about handwriting and we had to comply with the Marion Richardson standard at our school. The most noticeable aspect of Rory's signature is the capital R in the middle of his Christian name and end of his surname. Apparently this is supposed to indicate a person of regal bearing i.e. a leader :)
