Long Time Fan, Inspired by Genius.

Postby Ruairi_29 » 19 Aug 2011, 00:47

I'm new to this whole blogging thing, so bear with me.

My name's Ruairi O'Hare. I was named after Rory, but because I'm from Ireland I was given the Irish spelling. It's been a bit of a struggle, to say the least, because people are constantly asking me to spell it and I'm lucky to get a Birthday card were it's actually spelled right. The ironic thing is my whole family call me Rory. Crazy, I know.

I was first introduced to Rory's music by one of my school mates. Had no idea who he was at the time (Can I add this was in '94 when I was listening to the likes of The Offspring and The Smashing Pumpkins). It was in an Our Price store (anybody remember those?) before the days of HMV where I bought Against The Grain.

When I heard the opening riff to Let Me In I knew straight away that the guy playing that guitar was somebody I had to get to know better. Sadly though I would never get to see him live. That was when my musical horizons broadened and my need to play the guitar became even greater.

Since then my guitar has been a close friend, helping me through some hard times along with Rory's music.

The closest I came to meeting Rory was a few months back when I travelled to Ballyshannon and saw his statue. That was a real treat.

By the way, this idea of a film about Rory that's going around. . . . .

I don't think Rory would wanna even know about it.

welcome ON THE BOARDS Ruairi
I watched as fear took the old men's gaze
Hopes of the young in troubled graves
'I see no day' I heard him say
So grey is the face of every mortal

Hi Ruairi, it's great to meet you here. I think you are right about the above. He was such a humble guy; he'd probably be flattered but more than a little embarrassed.

Regards from California,
Richard
