...he would not " run for office "...

...he always took some time for his fans or Journalists/Interviewers,despite of how tired and fatigued he was, even directly after a concert !(and anyone who ever witnessed one, live or on dvd, knows what he put into them !!)

Listening to Rory's MWTK this morning.. I had to say one thing. Rory never got unhand his listeners off so easily..he loved to do multiple encores.

Here you go another unique first for The Strat and Rory ;)

Rory Gallagher's Stratocaster

It was reputedly "the first" in Ireland, and was ordered from Fender by Jim Connolly, a showband member performing with The Irish Showband. Connolly ordered a cherry red Stratocaster through Crowley's music shop in Cork in 1963. When Fender shipped a Sunburst Stratocaster instead, it went on sale as a second-hand instrument, which Gallagher bought for just shy of £100 at Crowley's Music Store on Cork's McCurtain Street. Note: the shop was at 10 Merchants Quay at the time of purchase.

something else unique about Rory. He was kind of an un-rockstarlike rock star. He appeared to be rather indifferent to many things that rock stars normally thrive on. And it sounds like he did have a sort of Jekyll and Hyde like existence. Confident on stage, but quiet and shy when offstage. I always wonder how he managed to be so nice to everyone, it can't have been that easy if he wasn't naturally outgoing.

Sorry, I must repeat what others have said, but it bears repeating:

1. His humility in spite of his greatness

2. His insistence on giving maximum effort whether there were 40 people or 40,000 in the venue.

Ronnie Drew of the Dubliners summed it up perfectly with his quote in Fin Costellos book.
"He didn't have the over confidence that the mediocre have. He had the quiet way that the great have, and he was that."
Sums it up perfectly eh!!!

Hi Mac, I first heard that great quote from Ronnie Drew in a TV doc, maybe "Requiem for Rory" not sure?

Great quote and really does say exactly what Rory was :D

Hi Mac,
The book was "Rory Gallagher, the ultimate performer", a photographic album by the Cork photographer Fin Costello.
It came out late in 2007, so I would check out Fins website for availibility.
best of luck,
cheers
