COBH BLUES FEST 2014 - Gerry Quigley & The Shinkickers

Where: Kelly's Bar Cobh
When: Sat Sept 20th 10pm

Hot on the trail of their successful tour in Perth, Western Australia recently, blues/rock and originals band Gerry Quigley & The Shinkickers have landed back in Ireland and hit the ground running. They have played every weekend in Cork City and surrounding areas since their return in mid-August, and will be playing again this Saturday 20th September at the awesome Cobh Blues Festival.

A festival favourite in Australia since they were formed in Perth in 1991, and named after the Rory Gallagher tune Shinkicker, the Irish lineup of this award-winning 5-piece band is based in Cork, Ireland and this will be The Shinkickers' debut at Cobh Blue Festival.

Although definitley not a tribute band, this is an original blues/rock band with plenty of their own amazing songs, Gerry Quigley's main guitar inspiration and biggest influence in developing his own unique style is Rory Gallagher. It is also possible that we could have been first band named as a tribute to Rory Gallagher, as Dublin blues/rock guitarist Gerry formed The Shinkickers in Australia in 1991, some four years before Rory died. Gerry has honoured Rory at every single gig with the band since their debut in 1991 by always including a couple of Rory Gallagher tunes in every Shinkickers show. Something that has become expected of him over the years in Perth, just as it is now in and around Cork City, Ireland. Gerry is also known in Perth for bringing Rory's music to the crowds of thousands in Perth and throughout Western Australia through his gigs and also through his many guitar students, who were all required to learn Rory Gallagher's music, they all loved every minute. Gerry was also responsible for Perth's Iconic 78 Records selling Rory's music, at the request of his many fans who came to the gigs and also his many guitar students. Gerry always made sure all of his guitar students bought Rory's albums when they were learning to play. Gerry is still teaching his Perth students every week via Skype, and he is still teaching them Rory's music and they never stop loving it!

This Saturday night at The Cobh Blues Fest, you'll hear many of our original classics, like Weeping Willow, Broken Down Blues, Sunset, Do Anything For You, along with many great blues classics from the legends such as BB King, George Thorogood, The Doors, Cream, Joe Bonamassa, Buddy Guy, Peter Green (The Supernatural) just to name a few and of course some more awesome tracks from Rory Gallagher.

If you love the amazing guitar sound of Gary Moore, Rory Gallagher, Eric Bell, Paul Kossof and many other legends who've inspired him over the years, you will love the unmistakeable style of Gerry Quigley and his blues/rock band The Shinkickers.

Currently holding their No.1 place again on the Reverbnation Charts for Blues, Ireland a position they have held onto regularly since they started gigging in Cork City earlier in 2014, when you hear Gerry Quigley & The Shinkickers play it's not hard to see why ... you'll know instantly when you hear them play live, that this man and his band have something special ...

Here is a sample of what to expect this Saturday at The Cobh Blues Festival... an original written by Gerry Quigley, from our "Broken Down Blues" album.

I can't tell you which Rory tracks we'll be doing, I am sworn to secrecy about that and we always change them, but I can say that if you are a Rory fan you will be totally amazed, you are in for a real treat!

Enjoy the music!
