R.I.P Ted McKenna

Postby Jay Jay » 19 Jan 2019, 12:49

I'm absolutely shocked and saddened to hear the news this morning from friends that Ted McKenna has passed away.
Another one of Rory's great drummers will be joining him in the heavens. My sincere condolences to all Ted's family and friends.

From Gerry McAvoy..
I'm lost for words creating this post. I lost my friend and comrade this morning. After what should have been a routine operation, there were complications, meaning Ted started hemorrhaging blood.Sadly the surgeons could not stop the bleeding.I spoke with Ted on Thursday, wished him good luck and told him we will speak on Saturday.I'm devastated.Ted was one of the nicest guys you could ever meet.A brilliant musician. He was a big man with a big heart, and he has left us all with a big hole in our lives. My thoughts are with Laura,Casey,Heather and Claire, and everyone who's lives were touched by the big man.RIP Ted from myself, Marcel,Davy, and all those musicains who had the pleasure of playing with one of the finest drummers of all time.

I am absolutely in shock and devastated. My condolences to Ted and his family and friends. We saw Ted play with Gerry and Marcel in Ballyshannon and Edinburgh. He was and is such a great drummer. I feel very privileged to have heard his drumming and I can understand why Rory chose him as his drummer. I still can't believe this has happened. I cannot get my head around it. I know you are with Rory now and one day I hope to see you play again Ted, in another time and space. Such sad terrible news but he left a magnificent drumming legacy. RIP Ted McKenna. He was a good man, always had a smile on his face and had great sense of humour. Subrata.xxxx
Susie did not live that far from him in Scotland and she still has the towel, Ted threw to the audience after the Band Of Friends played in Ballyshannon in 2013. She is devastated by the news.

I am glad Ted got to do what he loved i.e drumming and had an amazing career. His drumming legacy will live on forever!!
Thankyou so much Ted for keeping Rory's music alive with
everyone else in the Rory family. Thankyou for passing your drumming knowledge to the next generation. God bless. xxx My thoughts and prayers are also with Donal, Gerry, Marcel and Davy Knowles.

I am so saddened to hear the news. I just seen and talked to Ted here in California a few weeks ago. He was a very kind person with a great sense of humor. God bless you Ted, your music will live on.

Yesterday morning, quite by chance, I randomly selected a cd to play in the car. It was Rory Gallagher- Stage Struck. On arriving home from the supermarket, I read that Ted McKenna had died. So sad

This generation is fading away, at least from this side of the journey. Rest in peace Ted. In the flinty light....
