Rory's Tele

Well, that song she's humming, could make my guitar start strumming?

Rory's Tele

Hi,

I'm hoping someone can help my identify the colour of Rory's white Tele he used at the Isle of Wight with Taste. I'm assuming it is the same 1966 telecaster that is shown on this site...? Is it a solid white (Olympic white) or is it the transparent white (white blonde)?

Cheers!

Hi John,
Yes I guess it must be the one you say here http://rorygallagher.com/#/archives/guitars ..
As Donal says he played the song Sinnerboy with is the give away. Which Rory did of course at The Isle Of Wight Festival ..

Donal Gallagher:
“Rory loved this Telecaster, he played it on many songs mainly for his slide playing, on tracks like ‘Sinnerboy’ or ‘Who’s That Coming’ from Irish Tour. One time we were waiting to board a flight while on tour in the U.S. and we looked out the window as the luggage loading vans were driving towards our plane. Suddenly a guitar case fell off the first trolley, and the second van didn’t bother to swerve out of the way it just drove straight over the guitar case, we couldn’t believe it. The ’67 Tele was in the case and the top of the body of the guitar was badly scuffed and chipped. We gave to Chris Eccleshall to fix, who did a lot of work for Rory, maintaining his guitars and amps. Chris thought, as a kind, patriotic gesture for Rory, he would re-finish the guitar emerald green. Though this did not go down too well with Rory who, as you can tell by his ’61 Strat, was not keen on re-finishing the paintwork on his guitars. Thankfully we got it back to a natural cream white colour!”

I thought the Isle of Wight happened right after Rory's Strat and his other guitars were stolen- Don't know why but I thought the tele he played during the festival was borrowed-

and what about the white one with the black pick guard with the symbols written on it? What's the story on that one?

Man, he was young then . . . but I guess we all were

Cheers guys. I heard about the story about a truck running over it but either the Irish tour DVD or the recent Guitarist magazine quoted Donal as saying it was the black esquire that was run over... So who knows.
I also heard that the equipment used at Isle of Wight was borrowed due to a theft. Maybe whoever lent Rory the tele gave it to him afterwards..?
