Just phoned them.
The viewing is on Thursday from 18.00 - 21.00 BST.
There has been a lot of interest.
There are no prices at the moment.
You turn up to view, express an interest to the salesman and then they get back to you.
It is not going to be an auction or sealed bids.
This is the first batch to go on sale.
There will be more ...

Thanks for sorting that out Flamenca.
So in other words, fans from abroad don´t have a chance really, do they ?

Hi everyone

Just rang back again. The viewing is until 20.00 BST not 21.00 BST.
All of the kit has been fully serviced and is being run in the shop at the moment to make sure it works before the viewing.
Fans from abroad have to email Rick the owner to express an interest.
He is the owner of the store. His email address is:

sales@newkingsroadguitars.co.uk

Daniel will be there and Donal might drop in for a while.
They are also expecting well-known 'guests' but Rick did not say who as this is still unconfirmed.
I think it will probably be mobbed and on the t.v. news.

A price list will be published after everyone who is interested has expressed their interest.
The prices will then be sent to the interested parties.
They will then inform those who are still interested, if they have been successful.

Good luck!

Rory's things should be in a museum. To the younger generation sees his legacy. I am very disappointed with this decision on the sale, I think this Rory's Instruments is a national treasure that must be protected. :x

I can see this is an emotional topic. I can see both points of view.

Rick told me that this kit has been locked away in a safe place since Rory passed away.
It has not been used and they had to do a fair amount of servicing to get it working properly after almost 17 years in storage. There will have been a cost to that as technicians do not usually work free of charge.

It is his lesser known things that the family are parting with.
They can't keep this stuff in moth balls for ever. There would be no point.
Personally, I really want the Fender La Brea acoustic on the far right of the picture.
My first guitar was a Fender FC40 ... I had to have a Fender because Rory had one!
When I told him this and that I had to wash dishes for a YEAR to pay for it, he chuckled and enjoyed teasing me about the dish washing

My heart is set on the La Brea and I would treasure it and play it every day FOREVER :D :D :D , but I'm not holding out much hope. I think it will probably go to someone famous with a lot more money than me, who can bring more publicity to Rory's legacy :( :( :( .
So be it ... but I shall still say my little prayers and hope for the best ;)

So .... 72 hours notice for what amounts to a London-in-person only sale. I see how email is, in theory, opening up the sale to others - but its rather a token gesture, imo - given what is possibe nowadays.

I could say a lot about this, and what is suggests the legacy of Rory means to some people I had hoped wouldn't do things like this... :(

Also - I suspect the shop will be taking at least 20% commission ( which is fair enough from their side) so will be upping the price as much as they can on the night. Not a criticism of the shop - they are in retail, why wouldn't they. However, it is a very opaque way to go about things - there is no clear timeline or clarity about " we will get back to you"

If they ( Donal & Daniel ) really feel the need to sell on Rory's spare kit, surely a proper, detailed listing on this site, with embedded links to a proper auction site (for transparency and fairness) available worldwide would be the proper way to do this.

Rory sold over 30 million units - so assuming the average punter ( not those here) bought 5 LP's - there are/were roughly 6 million people who made Rory the legend he is today. The way this sale is being done, and the short notice given, is limiting the opportunity to a few dozen/hundred.

The short notice is also really unfair - the Kit has all been serviced apparently - so this has been planned for a while.... even an extra 7/14 days notice would allow anyone not in London far more chance to make plans. Two working days is almost no notice at all.

I am feeling a bit let down by the whole thing, to be honest - on a few different levels.

I've got mixed feelings on this one ..

Maybe some of the instruments / gear should have gone or offered to some

RORY GALLAGHER TRIBUTE BANDS that have been honoring RORY for many years now ..

and just about make ends meet now??
