The comment following the article refers to 'Ireland's first rockstar'. I think Rory has a reasonable claim there.
Even though Taste was blues-based, in the 60s Rory was already a 'starry' rock guitarist.
Van Morrisson was a star in the 60s, but Them was beat-based and even as a solo artist Van is not usually described as a rockstar.
Irish international rock musicians of the late 60s, such as Henry McCulloch, weren't 'stars' in their own right.
Irish rock bands like Thin Lizzy and U2 came along in the 70s.
