When I first heard that Taste had reformed with John Wilson and Charlie McCracken, I thought what is Taste without Rory?
However, first of all the Taste members have the right to form the band but technically they are not "Taste" as in the early 70s. I feel its original Taste members, playing with others, to remember Rory and to play a catalogue of Taste music.
Its the same with Queen. Yes its "Queen + Adam Lambert" but in fact its original members of Queen playing a catalogue of Queen music and remembering Freddy Mercury.
Maybe its the same for Band of Friends. Its not Rory Gallagher band Mark 3 but original members playing Rory's music and remembering Rory.
I am not here to say anything bad about the bands I have mentioned but its good that Rory's name and music is getting out there and he is being remembered.
This also includes ALL of the Rory tribute and cover bands. Sinnerboy being my favourite and will see you guys next year!! And yes its fine they make a living from it, because most of the Rory tribute and cover bands work hard.
John Wilson is an incredible drummer. In interviews, he has said that Rory,Charlie and him had something magical as musicians and if things had been different , they would still have been playing. Rory himself ( as Donal said) wanted to achieve his dreams through Taste. Rory did not want a solo career.
I use to think, well no, with Rory's solo music career, we saw such a different variety of guitar and musical style from Rory. The 70s had begun. It was a new decade and new possibilities for Rory, his new band and music. I believe in divine timing and the time was right for Rory to have a solo career.
But when I saw the Isle of Wight DVD 1970, I finally realised what John Wilson meant, when he said that Taste members had something special. I finally understood.
However its no point in seeing which way history could have gone. It is good to see John Wilson well again and playing. It is good that Rory's name + music and Taste music will live on. Rock On For Rory. Subrata.x

I think now John has recovered from his life threatening illness, he has realised more how special and wonderful RORY'S music was and still is :)
He nowadays in recent interviews gives Rory even more praise than ever calling Rory a special one off guitarist.
That's why I think his new band named now " Taste Of Rory " with same guitarist as he reformed Taste around the year 2000 but without Richard "Charlie " McCracken is so named. Giving Rory more credit for his musical compositions :)

Playing in London soon Suby ;) http://www.rorygallagher.com/#/news/201 ... how_231016

I know all disagreed with me about this, which is fine as we all have our opinions, and I respect each and every one of your for yours. I too am delighted with Rory tribute bands and spreading the word about Rory as much as possible. And I am happy Mr. WIlson has recovered from his illness, and is able to play. However I still had a negative reaction when I saw the ad, whether justified or not. Just a gut feeling that I can't explain.

At least it gave us something to talk about. :D

Hi Jay Jay,
I will try and see Taste of Rory band in the future. Been so busy this year. Anyway if John Wilson and the band are playing in Scotland, I will let Susie know and we will see them there. Susie has met John in Belfast in 2006 I think. I really want to hear his amazing drumming and the music of Taste and Rory. Its the nearest I will ever get to hearing Taste and Rory. Subrata.x
