Postby RobertaSparrow » 27 Aug 2015, 13:59

I've been doing the update for the section, This Day in Rory History, and it occurs to me tomorrow, August 28th is the 45th anniversary of Taste at the Isle of Wight!

Calls for a mini concert and party!

we only needed to wait 45 years to get this concert on a video.
I watched as fear took the old men's gaze
Hopes of the young in troubled graves
'I see no day' I heard him say
So grey is the face of every mortal

Better late than never, as they say. And it will stir up interest in a whole new generation who never saw Rory before. That's always good.

Yes 45 years ago Taste and their vocalist /lead guitarist Rory Gallagher was made know to the mass's 600,000 I believe @ The Isle Of Wight Festival. The British version of The "Woodstock" Festival you could say. It's unfortunate for Rory that The IOW Festival did not get the same TV coverage and publicity as Woodstock did worldwide. Otherwise Imho Rory Gallagher would probably be a household name now like Jimi Hendrix?

Seems I read and interview by Donal, and also was there not a mention in Gerry's book, that Taste was in the U.S. at that time, on the tour bus with Delaney, Bonnie & Friends, and Clapton and others, and there was the discussion on whether or not to go to Woodstock, but they decided not to?

I agree, if Rory had been there it would have been another win in his column. Would have made him even more well known than he was.
