you may well Eat Your Words 'cause I think you've got the wrong end of the stick here concerning Slipkid..

Daniel Gallagher ..

Hi Jay Jay

Thanks for getting the reply and to Slipkid for getting back so quickly, like I said I was just interested in where it was mentioned and as Slipkid says it sounds good to him. I think JimLED and Bullfrogger may have got the wrong idea that Slipkid was talking 'tosh'

I am feeling a little 'Bought & Sold', and to Slipkid I can only apologise, I will of course 'Eat My Words' and ask that you 'Cross Me Off Your List' :D

Hi Steve, we all make mistakes occasionally ..no need for crossing off lists..

Maybe you'll think twice now about Messin' with the slip-Kid
and a Message (PM) to the slipkid, could be the way "to put it right" Wheels Within Wheels ;)

Rock on for Rory

Well well well stop it! :)
No, I'm not agreed at all.

Well..

What we're here talking about? Slipkid said that the record has a clipping? Yes, he said exactly that. He didn't say any word about compression.

Let's see what 'rjstauber" talks about:

I just received the new Limited Edition book-style version of this release. Nice packaging, I really like it. Created for the music lover in mind.
Why they think they have to make it sound like s**t by adding tons of compression and sucking all life out of it is beyond me. The dynamics on this new release are totally squashed and I am furious. Why are the record companies so stupid???
Here's a wav-form from the track "Persuasion". No comment.

It gets a little better later on, see the 2nd wav-form... oh, sorry that is actually the first track of Metallica's Death Magnetic album...known as a wonder of dynamic CD mastering.
I am thinking about returning this product, even though I do like Rory Gallagher and the packaging is nice.

He compares waveform Rory song with waveform of Metallica's song? Is that correct? :)

And Daniel, please take my word. My point is not to critizism somebody else, I just want to get the true. I'm working with sound and video over 18 years. I'm working at televition studio. And believe me, I know what I'm talking about.

My opinion about these two screenshots by 'rjstauber':
The wide of 'Persuasion' screenshot was too low. It's not possible to say anything looking this kind of picture. You need to zoom it many times to see what is really going on at the waveform and, my outcomes is that there no compression and ofcourse, no any clipping Slipkid talked about.

Here's my screenshots of 'Persuation':

Few words about compression. The power of the song, tempo and tight sound is makes such waveform picture.
Last two pics about detecting clips. You may see there no clips detected.

Again. We can see there's no much compression. I'd say there's no compression at all. And no clips.

So what we're here talking about?
About compression or clipping?

NO JIM you missed the point.. Did you not read Daniel Gallagher's email to me on other page?

IT WAS NOT SLIPKID, he said he likes the sound of NFSF

IT WAS ONLY THIS OTHER GUY ON THIS OTHER FORUM :? !

I have seen only that. All my work according to that your message:

Jay Jay wrote:Slipkid wrote on other NFSF topic ..

Back to Notes from SF - I've unfortunately heard on a music forum (& seen the evidence) that the mastering on this new release is absolutely horrid. Clipped/compressed to the max, all the dynamics/life of the music sucked out of it. Some people that have seen the waveforms over there have decided they will not pay money for this kind of hatchet job.

Although I am disappointed by that news my tin ears usually can put up with horrid mastering as long as the music is good. So I still eagerly await delivery of my copy of this
.

Daniel Gallagher would like to know which "MUSIC FORUM" you heard this ??

And first, I wished to know is there are clips or not. No clips.
Compression - yes, but.. I'm not sure it's wrong.

Yes Jim, that's Slipkid quoting this guy or guys from another forum. Before he had his copy ..

Slipkid, now has his copy of NFSF and likes the sound as I just told you ..

DO YOU READ ME .. If so I suggest like Steve (Bullfrogger) has done send slipkid a PM of apology for wrongful accusations ;)

Rock on for Rory

It's interesting from a historical perspective, but to me, when you compare the redone versions of the tracks that ended up on Photofinish and Top Priority, Rory's decision to scrap the studio material and rerecord the material back across the pond, was the right choice. My opinion, of course. There are some gems here, for sure, but I think the live cd by itself would have been better.
