Im newish to Rory but on listening to Notes From San Francisco i was awe struck at how 'live' the studio album sounded and how fresh the sound was. All credit to his nephew.

Slipkid wrote on other NFSF topic ..

Back to Notes from SF - I've unfortunately heard on a music forum (& seen the evidence) that the mastering on this new release is absolutely horrid. Clipped/compressed to the max, all the dynamics/life of the music sucked out of it. Some people that have seen the waveforms over there have decided they will not pay money for this kind of hatchet job.

Although I am disappointed by that news my tin ears usually can put up with horrid mastering as long as the music is good. So I still eagerly await delivery of my copy of this
.

Daniel Gallagher would like to know which "MUSIC FORUM" you heard this ??

I have to hold the disc in my hands or got one of the tracks in WAV format to say is it true or not.
If the clipping are presents.. it's not so good...
But I have mp3. I hadn't heard something wrong. But I need one track in WAV. Who can grab it for me?

But...

I checked few tracks from CD1 and CD2.
First disc doesn't have any clipping... but CD2 having a lot. In every track.

Here's a couple screenshots from Tatoo'd Lady (Disc 2). Orange vertical lines are clippings.

BUT! This is from MP3 file. It can't say true or false. I need two WAV tracks from every disk.

And outcomes.

Thanks Steve for grabbed tracks in WAV.

I had checked 2 first files from CD1 and first one from CD2.

Only first track of CD1 has a little clip. It's not a problem. I tell you, this is normal. The waveform doesnt have any cuts.
Live track from CD2 is perfect.

All I can say this 2CD package is great. Great work of Donal and Daniel.
Do not bother yourself thinking about clips that slipkid were talked.
As Steve said once.. it's Tosh! :)

to Slipkid all I can say is....

I'll eat my words,
If I am wrong,
You can count,
When I sing my song.

You don't hate me,
You hate my tongue,
You won't even read my will,
Won't even read my will,
Won't even read my will.

Eat my words,
Eat my words,
Eat my words,
Eat my words.

Hey Steve and Jimled,
you may well Eat Your Words 'cause I think you've got the wrong end of the stick here concerning Slipkid..

Daniel Gallagher ..

Hi Jay Jay

Thanks for getting the reply and to Slipkid for getting back so quickly, like I said I was just interested in where it was mentioned and as Slipkid says it sounds good to him. I think JimLED and Bullfrogger may have got the wrong idea that Slipkid was talking 'tosh' he was just mentioning posts by others, on this Music forum. There's no problem with people having opinions or even a bit of criticism - I might deserve it you never know!

Daniel

Here is the link Music forum Slipkid was talking about
This is the exact thread:

http://www.stevehoffman.tv/forums/showt ... p?t=247271

If you go down to page 3 in the thread, to post #44, someone posted waveform pictures of several tracks, showing levels very maxed out, with their comments about it. Someone else chimed in that they wouldn't even buy this because of it.
