Who's that calling way out there? I've got your signal loud and clear

IRISH TOUR 74 BOX SET 40th Anniversary Recordings

Postby roryfan » 15 Jul 2014, 01:27

A couple of weeks ago, an old acquaintance asked me if I knew when the
cuts on Irish Tour were recorded. I didn't know, but contacted Daniel.
Here is his reply.
***********************************************************************
As the gigs were being filmed I think Tony Palmer and Rory agreed to do
pretty much the same set most nights so Tony could cut between nights on
the same song but some of the track orderings got moved around as Rory
would play what he was in the mood to go with. In the end the album came
entirely from the Cork show as the Lane Mobile unit only made it to that
show. I’m looking into the dates now but I’m pretty sure the Belfast and
Dublin shows were before New Years and the Cork shows after so they may
need correcting, also possibly there were matinee performances at some
of the venues as well. The general set list was;

Messin’ With The Kid
Cradle Rock
I Wonder Who
Tattoo’d Lady
Walk On Hot Coals
Laundromat
A Million Miles Away
Hands Off
Too Much Alcohol
As The Crow Flies
Pistol Slapper Blues
Unmilitary Two-Step
Bankers Blues
Going To My Hometown
Who’s That Coming
In Your Town
Bullfrog Blues - only on the Dublin and Belfast recordings, weirdly
didn’t seem to get played at Cork show.
For the Irish Tour box set I’ve got pretty close to full concerts - Cork
16 tracks, Belfast 16 and Dublin 14 tracks.

**********************************************************************************************
Today Daniel wrote again with info he and Donal dug up through Rory and
Donal's dairies. This pretty much nails it down for us.

28th Dec 1973 Belfast
29th Dec 1973 Belfast
2nd Jan 1974 Dublin
3rd Jan 1974 Cork
4th Jan - Ronnie Lane mobile unit arrived.
5th Jan 1974 Cork (album recording date)
From an interview tape I was listening to there were possibly matinee
shows as well at some of these venues.

***********************************************************************************************
LOOKING FORWARDED TO THAT IRISH TOUR BOXED SET!!!

Great news. Thanks, Daniel and John!
I would be nice to see all these shows from the movie, all as it is, the whole gigs sets.

So, going off that set list, it must be Hands Off that fades in before Too Much Alcohol.
I always wondered what that tune was.

OK Here it is. I emailed Daniel and here is his reply
"The date we’re aiming for is the 13th / 14th of October this year - have to make sure we get it out while it’s still a 40th anniversary!"

I'm ready!
