I came across this blues compilation cd a couple of weeks ago called - THIS IS THE BLUES VOLUME 2 (there are 4 volumes altogether) on EAGLE RECORDS.

Track one is RORY GALLAGHER - LEAVING TOWN BLUES with RORY, JOHN COOK, RICHARD NEWMAN and someone called SPOON whoever SPOON is?.

LEAVING TOWN BLUES has a running time of 6:49 and NO recording date.

THIS IS THE BLUES VOLUME 3 Has RORY & band performing SHOWBIZ BLUES.

I gotta go with the triumvirat of Calling Card, Photo-Finish, and Top Priority. 3 Killer albums released in a row.

My favorite is probably Top Priority but the album I recommend to people new to Rory is Calling Card, it is a very varied tour de force with all kinds of wonderful songs (rockers, ballads, acoustic, you name it).

calling card and photo finish are even, that comes as a bit of surprise to me cos i thought majority of fans prefer calling card
I watched as fear took the old men's gaze
Hopes of the young in troubled graves
'I see no day' I heard him say
So grey is the face of every mortal

Hi Joe, a very warm welcome buddy to Rory's forum.
Yes everything fine here. I hope same for you there in Derry?

Thanks for clearing that up about Orchard Row. Have you told Donal Gallagher this. It must have been his first home ever there?

Regards Jay Jay

In my youth I would have chosen Blueprint and a couple of rockers. Now that I've mellowed, I'm going for Blueprint, Deuce and Rory Gallagher as I think they've all got good mixtures of light and dark, reflection, pace and melody. Some really beautiful songwriting. There's plenty of frantic guitar work on the live albums and DVDs of concert performances!

One: Photofinish
Two:Jinx
Three: Defender

Saw 7 shows in the U.S., first with Rush at the Shrine, LA . A. In Concert taping with Edgar Winter & R. Derringer, Long Beach, CA. A show at the Santa Monica Civic, LA. 3 nights at the Stardust Ballroom in Hollywood, CA. and at the Roxy. Hollywood, ( where Slash,er Saul as I knew him , got up and jammed. ) somehow, I felt that this would be the last time to watch Rory live. He was bloated, but laundromat was very loud and very well played! Best version of that song I heard live in person!

That's a task!.. I've been thinking and thinking and thinking...
All Rory's albums are top albums for me. And with such polls you inevitably tear your heart apart.
Hard as it was to make a choice I couldn't help participating in this poll.

Well, there was no hesitation as to which album to choose the first - it is "Rory Gallagher"!
With the rest of them I faced a horrible dilemma.
Still I couldn't resist voting for "Tattoo". And my third choice was "Blueprint" because I really love this album and it's painful to see it lag behind in the poll.

So, "Rory Gallagher", "Blueprint", "Tattoo".
