Hey- that one, 1974 Long Beach Auditorium. Rory headlined, a version of Fleetwood Mac also played there that nite- none of the original members tho. I remember when we went in, someone from the venue was offering refunds in case anyone was there to see Fleetwood Mac since it wasn't really Fleetwood Mac in the purest sense. But we, and far as I know, everyone else around us, were there to see Rory and his band.

KISS opened, but we got in a little late- stuck in the L.A. traffic- No one had ever heard of KISS before, and after I saw them I didn't think they'd ever be heard from again. We got there during their last couple of numbers. KISS had those giant lights that spelled out their name above them, and when they left the stage the lights were raised up out of sight. There was no call for them to do an encore, and when the roadies came up to clear the stage the light bar reading "KISS" was lowered again to be taken down, and the crowd expressed their displeasure by booing and throwing stuff :P (yeah I know, not nice, but NO ONE had ever heard of or seen KISS before, and the crowd was there to see Rory). When we bought the tickets the fact that Fleetwood Mac was there did sweeten the deal, except we found out later none of those guys were from the original band, and this was before the later incarnation with the wife and girlfriend joined up. But this crowd was there to hear Rory's kind of music.

KISS totally sucked. (JayJay if that is considered inappropriate, I would amend that sentence to say KISS wasn't so good, but truthfully, they really sucked

Rory's P.A. system failed toward the end of the concert, so it ended before we would have liked, but not before doing some acoustic stuff.

To sum up, Rory and his band were amazing. :D :D 8-)

Saturday 17th February 1973 Newcastle City Hall.

This is the earliest ticket I have in my collection so this could have been the first time I saw Rory.

You guys got show souveniers at the venues over there? All I got was a ticket stub from Ticketmasters, and I lost that years ago! There used to be posters put up around town before some of those concerts, but it never occurred to me to collect any of them when they would have been free. Now every so often you see some on Ebay- I've seen some of the authentic ones from some of Rory's German concerts listed, but they go for thousands now, way too expensive. It would have been nice to have saved some of those local posters from the time.

My daughter learned from my mistakes, though- she has a White Stripes poster from when she saw them when they were still together, and a Black Keys as well. And she got the DVD from a NIN concert where she managed to get up to the stage and we can see her shaking Trent Reznor's hand at the end of the show- one of many fans that he reached out to from the stage, just as Rory used to do.

Always seemed there would be a next time.
