As I said a few days ago sadly this was the last time i saw Rory Live in Concert :(
There was not a large audience at this my hometown gig, as there had been always in the past (3500). I could feel Rory and his band were not so animated as past performances. In hindsight Gerry and Brendan about to leave him. They still put on a pro performance tho, with Rory still doing MWTK & Bullfrog Blues as encores.

Plus I did manage to say for the last time to our hero " Merry Christmas Rory " as he walked straight pass me off stage :)

Hold those memories Jay, there are an awful lot of people in the various forums and groups who never got to see our G-Man play live...
I never saw Rory in the later years, I think my last concert was 8th Oct 1987 at Manchester's International 2 Venue.. great memories that no one can erase!

This was the last time I would see Rory live in concert :( In my hometown too.
It wasn't the most electrifying Rory gig, I must be honest.. With the Civic Hall, now City Hall not even half full.
Although as I remember, Rory did do another storming finale / encore of " Messin' With The Kid and Bullfrog Blues"
As Rory and his band walk off stage.. I did manage to grab Rory's attention, and shouted to him..

" Merry Christmas Rory " :)

Make your own mind up about this composition ... however ... I think this recording is beautiful and shows that Rory was still making emotionally compelling music despite his condition.

I have to disagree with Gerry who wrote in 'Riding Shotgun' regarding the Glasgow Fleadh:
"Rory also had a young Italian fiddle player in tow, although for the life of me, I couldn't understand why he was there. He wasn't even very good. To me it was a sign of how muddled Rory's thinking had become' .....

The live performance may have been surprising / unexpected, but I don't think there was any muddle at all in Rory's creative thinking ...

I wasn't at Warner Chappell in 1994. I'd left in Dec 1987 to go to BMG Records.
I not sure which year Chappell's moved over to West London - sometime in the late 1990s, but the offices used to be at 129 Park Street Mayfair. The studio in Park Street was in the A&R department, overlooking Park Street on the east side of the building rather than noisier Park Lane on the west side of the building. There was also a couple of rehearsal / practice rooms with upright pianos next to the copyright department on the south side of the building. It touches me in a very real way to imagine Rory in that studio because I remember the studio so well, I can still see it in my mind's eye. Being the world's largest, most prestigious music publisher, Chappell's always managed to attract fabulously talented musicians in their creative departments. Industry figures, Paul Curran was an A&R guy when I was there, and Chris Butler was head of orchestral. Whoever was there in 1994, you can be sure they were very talented and would have been delighted to work with Rory. Incidentally, my first day at Chappells I was introduced to the Managing Director Jonathan Simon (whose mother was a Chappell). As I walked down the corridor to his office with my new boss, I noticed a framed copy of a letter on the wall. It read 'Dear Mssrs Chappell & Co ... and was signed Ludwig Van Beethoven' ... boy, was I impressed

THANIK YOU Flamenca and I completely agree with you. In fact I've been hearing the full album and it will be one of my Holy Kings' auto presents (traditional day for Christmas gifts at Spain).

On youtube it's also the other song with Rory playing.
Raga for G.M Volonté
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lS-binq-4Hc

I wonder if the name of the song was suggested by Rory, because Gian Maria Volonté became very famous, as well Clint Eastwood, due to a Sergio Leone's film "Per qualche dollaro in piú" ( A fistfull of dollars ) filmed at Spain (Almeria) and the very first "Spaghetti western" film.

Ups I would be more than impressed if at my work would be an autograph from Beethoven :o :o

Hi Madrid74

Thanks for posting the other youtube link - just beautiful and definitely on my Christmas present list too ;)
I think the fusion of these different genres / world music, call it whatever ... is beautiful music, whatever it's called :D

It gives a clue as to an avenue of exploration for Rory, it's such a crying shame that he didn't live to make more, and that his talent had not depleted, just moved on to evolve into new directions, although he had always loved folk music.
