The gig in Manchester is the very one that Rory signed all my taste & RG solo LP sleeves, collected over the previous decade since I first heard Rory in 1978. After a wait of just a few minutes after the gig, and having negotiated with a very hairy bouncer/roadie ( maybe Tom Odriscoll?) Rory agreed to sign all the sleeves despite a long (and I assume tiring) night- and I spent a few brief moments in his company. He was gracious and polite, and commented that he didn't actually have one of the LP's ( a polydor compilation) himself.

So I met the great man briefly, and have still got all his vinyl releases (except Fresh Evidence) signed by Rory. They are, obviously, amongst my most treasured possessions.

The Manchester gig at The international 2 was the very gig the great man signed all my Taste and RG vinyl. So everything he released up to and including Defender, including a few compilations too. He was real gent - very gracious, and it was a brilliant gig. I seem to remember it was the first gig I personally saw him playing a cutaway acoustic rather than his old Martin... a Takamine I think.

That old Martin is the one I would like to have if it ever went up for sale, even though it was damaged toward the end, and so he switched over to that Takamine guitar in later years. That Martin had such a beautiful sound anyway, and it Rory's hands it really sang. The Takamine, on the other hand, even with Rory playing it, IMO it sounded tinny and blah .....

I was just thinking about the times I saw Rory - and googled the date of the Mcr International II gig.

To my surprise, i found a record of an ebay sale of mine from 2009, of one my signed Rory LP's - sihned on that rainy evening. The internet is a scary place.
