Dont know of any story's that Rory stole the show from Quo,am not sure who headlined these gigs in America,i know Quo never really made it in America..... but what i do know is Status Quo respected Rory so much, and were big friends, they still name check Rory now, i have had a few Chats with Francis Rossi and he still has and always will have respect for Rory.
He said how did someone so young be as good a guitarist as Rory was... :)
One of his favourite all time albums is "On The Boards"..... thats where Quo got there now legendary sound from, listen to some early Quo and you will see that album all over it.
So i dont think there was any competion between them, they just loved each others company,as you can see the picture on the Quo album,"On The Level"..... Rory and John Coghlan enjoying a beer and a laugh together..... that picture sums up Rory/Quo.... Big Friends....... and as Francis Rossi told me once......" Rory always used to ask me how my Telecaster was keeping"......thats Rory for you..... :)

But last .. "Rory always used to ask me how my Telecaster was keeping"... what is meaning of that line? Rory used to ask Francis tele to play?

What Rory meant was Francis Rossi's Green Telecaster was beaten up,still plays it to this day,i think he saw it just like his own famous strat..... just like me and you asking how your dog is....... Rory saw guitars in that way... :)
