No - he died in the summer of 1971 before I went to my first ever gig.
My first gig was to see Rory on 6th December 1971.
It had been scheduled for the Top Rank - a night club, but they cancelled the show.
Luckily for me, it was re-located to the Royal Court Theatre where you had to be at least 14 to enter.
I was 13 but wore a lot of goth make up and was with people a lot older than myself, so the ushers didn't question my age.

I'm still a big fan of Queen. I have always had huge respect for very talented people who lack vanity.
Freddie was very self-effacing about his looks. He made fun of his own teeth!
He loved theatre, opera, vaudeville etc. and dressing up outrageously.
I never had a problem with that because he did it for fun, not narcissistic vanity ... unlike many of the other attention seeking pretentious poseurs who loved themselves (many of whom had little talent)!

Rory and Freddie had that in common - extraordinary talent, consummate show men, devoid of vanity.

1985, Brooklyn New York is L'Amours. World famous rock club, Charlie in The Loop group said Rory arrived late by plane I think it was, and arrived at the show, ran on stage w the band and put on a fantastic show for the neighborhood. I am so sorry I did not know of the 85 tour, even embarressed. I was at many clubs then w friends band and different shows too, ughhh......
Bayshore club was Sundance.

Flamenca, I just finished reading your fantastic journey story , thanks.
I too started going to concerts at 13, in 1978. first Aerosmith, w golden yawn earring opening. If only Rory got the nod to open the east coast tour or the west coast opener of the tour AC/DC. that would've been awesome. Saw Queen soon after, then Yes. all at 13. Great times and memories of so many many shows by the time I was 15.

beautifully said flamenca, i couldn't agree more. and also they were shy but monsters on stage.
I watched as fear took the old men's gaze
Hopes of the young in troubled graves
'I see no day' I heard him say
So grey is the face of every mortal

RORY GALLAGHER this day from this place, 20 years ago today. May have joined that great band of 'Blues Angels' in the heavens. Yet there is absolutely no doubt, his legacy and great music, will always be in our hearts /souls & minds forever more.
