Hi mac,
I tend to buy one or two mags each month. Usually a guitar one and the other usually Classic Rock or something like that. Depends what the content is.
Great to see Guitar and Bass feature Rory. They did a really good feature on Rory in July 2005, 13 pages with great pics of Rory's main guitars.
I've been playing bass in a Rory tribute band for about 5 years now and I suppose Gerry's bass playing is pretty straightforward. Each time we practice a new song there is always something new to learn from it. Most of the time he sticks on the root note and fills in with riffs to suit the song. Gerry is a solid player and locks into the drums with no effort but at the same time, especially in a live situation, he can follow the groove when Rory decides to veer off from the recorded version.
We only do a handful of bookings each year with the Rory band so the rest of the time I play bass with a band doing classic rock covers. We do Purple Haze and Watchtower. Again, Noel Redding is a solid player, although on Watchtower there's a fair bit bass going on during Jimi's solos.
